The Bow: Bow when entering or leaving the mat area as a sign of respect for the training space and your peers.
Hierarchy of Learning: Address instructors as "Coach" or by their title. Show deference to senior students; their experience is a resource for your growth.
The Formal Greeting: Always shake hands or bow to your training partner before and after every drill or sparring session. We start with respect and end with gratitude.
Weapon Sanctity: Sticks and training tools are never to be swung or used outside of active drills. When an instructor is speaking, weapons must be held at your side or placed on the floor.
The Safety Check: You are responsible for the "check engine light" on your gear. Inspect your sticks and padded weapons for splinters, cracks, or tears before every class. Notify a coach of any faulty equipment immediately.
Check Your Ego: We are here to sharpen each other, not to "win" a practice session. Calibrate your power and speed to match your partner’s skill level.
The "Tap" is Sacred: Whether physical or verbal, a "Tap" (or the word "Stop") must be respected instantly. There are no exceptions.
Emotional Regulation: Training with weapons involves high stress. If you feel your frustration rising, take a "Tactical Reset"—step off the mat, breathe, and return only when you have regained full composure.
Hygiene & Safety: Keep finger and toe nails trimmed short. Ensure your training attire is clean and free of zippers or jewelry that could snag.
The "Vintage" Rule: Be mindful of your partner’s physical limitations and injuries. We train so we can all show up again tomorrow.
Punctuality: Arrive 10 minutes early. If you arrive after class has begun, wait at the edge of the mat for the Coach’s permission to join the group without being disruptive.
Give without Expecting: Keep the training area clean and orderly. Treat your fellows with kindness and generosity.
Be Gracious: In self-defense -as in life- try not to blame others for your mistakes. Your trainng partner wants you to succeed. The next time you miss a block, or forget a pattern, erase it from your mind! Say, "My fault" and show maturity and correct your failing on the next go-round.
Personal Integrity: Is the source of moral authority. Be your word and the world will truely see who you are.
